Design house in Portbou
Portbou is a town of seafaring tradition located on the northern edge of the Costa Brava. The town of Portbou is located in the region of Alt Empordà touching the border with France, so it has a very remarkable communications hub. It is also one of the smallest reservoirs in Catalonia, built between 1973 and 1975 with the aim of supplying drinking water to the whole town.
It is characterized by the transport of goods and rail traffic but also for having been the exit route for the Republicans to France during the Civil War and for the Jews escaping from the Nazis in the Second World War. Its history and border condition has marked the lifestyle and character of the inhabitants.
This municipality offers authentic natural wonders of both mountain and sea. The main tourist attractions of Portbou are the neo-Gothic church of Santa Maria, its interesting offer of coves where you can enjoy sunny days such as the Cala del Claper or the Tres Platgetes and the memorial to the prominent German philosopher Walter Benjamin.
